Ok so I know we have all been busy tie-dying and even reverse tie dying everything we own for the past 18 months, but have we tried plain dye?? I started with a dyed shirt a few weeks ago and was OBSESSED with the way it turned out so I am making my way through my closet now. I needed an outfit to go out in last weekend and went for my ‘go to’ dress, I then realized I have worn it so so many times and I wanted to spice it up. I’ve literally worn this dress to my college graduation, my graduate school graduation, on vacation, out with friends, out shopping etc. I decided to dual dye the dress in two blue colors and LOVE how it came out! What should I dye next? The whole process took about two hours and I have completely made a new outfit out of an old staple. This method is perfect for your white clothing that is no longer white or if you’ve worn a dress too many times- love the fit but want to switch to switch it up and wear it in new ways. The best part? It is inexpensive, easy and can completely transform your wardrobe season to season.
In this blog post, I will outline the hand dying clothing, share my personal experiences, tips and tricks and ideas for you to create! This dye method can be used for any fabric, hats, bags, blankets, shoes, shirts etc. I can’t wait to see you transform your wardrobes, whether it is bringing new life into tired clothing or elevating a brand new basic you purchased! Create with Bleach: Hand Dyed Clothing Method/Tutorial
Hand Dying Method
Dye Step 1: Set up & Gather your materials
Gather your dye, plastic bag, tub etc and decide what you want to dye! In this case I am dying a white shirt I purchased online that was completely see through when it arrived.
Dye Step 2: Make your dye bath
Follow the instructions on the dye purchased and prepare your dye bath. Use a paper towel or napkin to test the water to reveal your desired color.
Dye Step 3: Submerge fabric in dye bath and check color for development
Add your fabric to the dye bath, make sure it is fully submerged and there is no creases. Leave the dress on each side and color for for 15 minutes! The next steps are to rinse your item and hand wash or machine wash, depending on the needs of your item.
Thats it! Rock your new garment & tag @merakibybk in your creations! If you have questions or would like to book a virtual art lesson for us to create a project together in real time, email meraki.bk@gmail.com or DM @merakibybk
